Usually called B&M, are opening a new store on Robin Park.
They are taking over the old Wicks store and are due to open next week.
Happy bargain hunting to Wigan Worlders.

They are taking their time about opening it, because it was announced months ago that it was going to be a B&M

They would only take the Wilko building in Standisgate, for commercial reasons, rather than trading reasons, because both stores are in exactly the same place, and when Wilko's Wigan closes, B&M will get the trade in any case, but do B&M rent the old British Home Stores building they are in, on Standishgate, or do they own it, the Wilko store in the old Debenhams building was built brand new in 2007-2008, retaining only the outer facade of the Debenhams building, but do Wilko's own it ? I would imagine that they doo, if that is the case, how much would the administrators want for the building ? and those are your 'commercial' reasons why B&M or another company may consider buying the Wigan Wilko's building.

B&M = Bargain Madness!
Compared to what it once was, it's crap nowadays, and expensive.

Cherry Gardens or Robin Park, which is closer to Grotsville I wonder?

If only we had a self elected expert on hand, someone familiar with local geographical matters to put us right.

Oh well.....I guess the question is going to remain unanswered for eternity

Grotsville certainly sounds like an ideal area for the three stooges to reside. They could discuss all the interesting topics they start on Wigan World?

You're right Rio, i'd look forward to their stories of how they constructed an electrical engineering contract or found their way across a busy street without help from a lollipop man, They sit on the bench near the Nero coffee bar often until the PCSO's move them on, I've offen chucked them a couple of quid to help them out,,

No chance of a Booths or a Waitrose then in Wigan?

Only surpried that it is not a large Home Bargains like at Middlebrook!

Well the one they will have at Robin Park in the old Wicks shop is going to be a big un, maybe that is why it is taking it a while to get ready, there is a lot of shop there to fit out

Why is there a need another large B & M store so near to the other one at Marus Bridge?

Could it be a just a transfer to a larger premises with better parking and more central to the centre of Wigan!

OC Robin Park is now too crowded with them building new units and it is a nightmare driving round to find a parking space

If I had to make a guess about the intentions of B&M in that the decision to take the old Wicks unit at Robin Park, was not just because they needed larger trading space, I would say it is going to be a relocation from the Wigan Standishgate store, which will eventually be closed, I suppose it could be a relocation from the Marus Bridge store, I suppose time will tell.

As regards parking at Robin Park and Wicks, I always found parking outside of Wicks not to be a problem, because it was over to the corner of the site, and well way from the other shops.

TTS it may be in a corner position but you still have to get round a pathetic car park . Even getting onto it can puzzle some drivers

I never had a problem parking at Wickes, that's because there was only about 3 or 4 people in.
I think now that B&M have it parking won't be that easy.

Yep, the route around that car park has always puzzled me.

Brasstoft

That's a good point that, because it will be a lot busier than Wicks.
